style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">General report regarding Mr. Kazemeini-Boroujerdi\u2019s seven plus years (2655 days) imprisonment<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s condition during the nearly eight year\u2019s captivity in various prison wards. He was arrested by agents from the Special Clerical Tribunal and sentenced and is entirely under the strict supervision of the Supreme Leader and the judiciary which does not adhere to the country\u2019s constitution.\u00a0 The Special Clerical Tribunal has its own specific ward in prison that is for imprisoned clerics. Ward 350 is for political prisoners and regime elements that included agents from the Ministry of Intelligence do not wish for him to be in contact with anyone who is detained in the political ward.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Boroujerdi has been also held in wards 209 and 240. Presently he is held in ward 325 of Evin prison, in section 7 of the detention area for the clerics.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He also spent nine months in exile, in the city of Yazd, where he was held in a room that was totally separate which was a kind of solitary confinement.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">While in ward 209 he spent three months without any break; however during the nearly eight years, he has spent many 10 day, 20 day and even 30 day periods in solitary. And there was an instance where he did spend one hundred days in solitary, inside ward 209. In total, four hundred of the 2655 days that he has spent in prison, were spent in solitary confinement.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During the time he spent in ward 240, which is specifically supervised by the Revolutionary Guards, he was also taken to solitary confinement where he was tortured. After his release from that section of the prison, he was able to make a phone call whose audio file is available here.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NX66jEQnX4w\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Audio file<\/span><\/a> translation: I\u2019ve just come out; I thought I should let you know. I was in the Special area for Intelligence Security. I\u2019ve just come out. They claim that I\u2019ve tried to get the prisoners to riot. Where I was, the result was that they told me not to speak otherwise, they\u2019d cut off my hands. If the United Nations had recognized me as an independent religious leader, they would have never tortured me so much. Insha\u2019Allah (God willing) that it is over soon.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The conditions in the prison infirmary and the ways Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s ailments are diagnosed.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As there are no doctors or specialists of any kid at the Evin Prison infirmary and the infirmary itself is ill-equipped to treat any real ailments, and the doctors are internists, they are essentially unable to properly diagnose the medical issues that the prisoners suffer from. Also due to the serious security and surveillance atmosphere, the doctors refrain from offering their diagnoses. Despite all this Mr. Boroujerdi has suffered from numerous medical issues and continues to face the worsening of each problem.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In September 2008, Dr. Hesam Firouzi who himself was a prisoner at the time, did a check up of Mr. Boroujerdi. On September 2nd, 2008 Dr. Firouzi told the head of the Iranian regime\u2019s judiciary: \u201cAs an independent physician who is unrelated to any political movement and who according to his Hypocritic Oath, is bound to saving lives, I insistently request that you save his life by transferring him to a specialized medical facilty, outside of prison.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrw.org\/legacy\/backgrounder\/2008\/iran0908\/iran0908web.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.hrw.org\/legacy\/backgrounder\/2008\/iran0908\/iran0908web.pdf<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In his report, Dr. Firouzi pointed out that Mr. Boroujerdi suffers from coronary, pulmonary and renal stone problems.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0In certain cases too, Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s family consulted with specialists outside prison, explaining the specifics of his medical conditions and detailing all that he suffers from. On occasion too he was able to speak to doctors on the telephone, to see if they can make determinations. During those instances, medicines were prescribed for alleviating his symptoms and suffering. His Diabetes has yet to be tested for blood sugar levels, however the symptoms are very much present.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0 There was also an instance at the Yazd Central Detention Center, where Mr. Boroujerdi was checked out by a female physician, who was brought in from outside prison. The doctor stated that his Ocular retina was torn, due to beatings and assault that he had sustained, as well as an instance where he had chemicals splashed in his face. However, so far not only has he not been treated for any of his illnesses and has been purposefully prohibited from receiving any medication that has been prescribed to him. Other than a few instances when he was given suppositories for pain, all regular pain relievers and sedatives are given to him infrequently and on rare occasions.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During these eight years, he has visited the hospital, in total of three times and the following is the description:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On his first visit on October 10th, 2006 (Mehr 18th, 1385) which was three days following his arrest, he was taken to Jam Hospital in Tehran. During his arrest he had been severely beaten with batons and following the arrest, while in detention, he had been severely tortured and that was when he began to lose consciousness. He was first taken to the Evin prison infirmary\u00a0 and then from there moved to Jam Hospital where they conducted and MRI\u2019s and CT Scans of his brain. Agents and guards who had taken him to prison had him in chains, which they had fastened to the hospital bed. His family and friends were not notified of his situation and he was hospitalized under a different name. Therefore there is no real or detailed information on that instance of his hospitalization and the regime guards and agents who accompanied him have made sure that all records have been disappeared.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On the second visit on December 7th, 2011 (Azar 16th, 1390), he was transferred to Moddaress hospital but he we returned right back to prison after a few hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">At that time he was suffering from chronic heart problems which had turned into an acute pulmonary edema and his respiratory was extremely troubled and irregular. Still they refused to transfer him to the hospital and the insistence of his family for a medical furlough from prison, and the delivery of his medication made no difference and he deteriorated from one day to the next, which exacerbated his other ailments as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">However on the insistence of various human rights organizations (as shown below) and the constant issuance of statements which pressured the regime, finally forced the authorities to transfer him to Moddares hospital. There he had an an EKG and blood test taken. However the Ministry of Intelligence refused to act on the recommendations of the hospital authorities, which insisted on him being hospitalized and returned him to prison. It should be added that while he was being transferred to the hospital from the prison, due to the chains on his hands and legs, he fell out of the ambulance and injured his leg.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2011\/12\/mr-boroujerdi-transferred-to-moddaress.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2011\/12\/mr-boroujerdi-transferred-to-moddaress.html<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Once again, during this hospital visit, he was registered under a different name and therefore his hospital documents were not given to his family. Other than having problems passing kidney stones, when taken to the hospital he was immediately returned to prison with the excuse that there was a shortage of proper equipment. (The agents claimed that upon arrival at the hospital all the machined necessary for were out of order and therefore he had to be returned to prison!)\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2012\/05\/as-mr-boroujerdis-health-declines-he-is.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2012\/05\/as-mr-boroujerdis-health-declines-he-is.html<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It is important to mention that every single time he was in a dire health emergency and had to get to the prison infirmary, he was never taken by gurney and had to go by himself, where he never received any proper treatment or medication. He has never had any results from his visits to the infirmary and therefore he is not inclined to go anymore, though he is taken by force.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s family pleads to deliver medicine to him\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During the nearly eight years, Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s family has repeatedly referred to the Special Clerical Tribunal and the prosecutor\u2019s office (various authorities of the special tribunal) and has pleaded to have him checked out. However, so far none of them have bothered to make any efforts to provide him with the medication which was delivered to him. The last time this occurred was last summer (2013).\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">All in all, taking the medication inside the prison is not permissible or done. And for taking any packages or special things for prisoners, there has to be special permission, written or spoken from the prison warden. To that end, the Boroujerdi family persisted and followed up on a regular basis but during these years only in 2011, and only due to the persistence and pleading with the guard duty at the gate of Evin prison, a package containing his heart medication was accepted. Later it became clear that the box had been opened and the medication had been delivered to him, however, it was not clear if in fact what was delivered was the specific medication or not.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">An example of the family\u2019s follows up in this case:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On January 6th, 2013 (Dey 17th, 1391) Ms. Akram Vali-Doost, Mr. Kazemeini-Borouijerdi\u2019s wife contacted the Special Clerical Tribunal. While registering a complaint about the authorities\u2019 refusal to transfer Mr. Boroujerdi to a hospital, she insisted that they at least take receipt of his heart medication. However, the authorities refused to accept the medication and even threatened Ms. Vali-Doost for following up on her husband\u2019s case.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2013\/01\/deteriorating-of-mr-boroujerdi-physical.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2013\/01\/deteriorating-of-mr-boroujerdi-physical.html<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The quality of the nutrition and foodstuffs given to Mr. Boroujerdi and other sick prisoners\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Boroujerdi and other sick prisoners of conscience have specific dietary requirements but for the time being, they are only being given potatoes and Soy Beans, which is inedible. There is no proper food for prisoners; there are no fruits or vegetables to balance out the diet. Usually prisoners are permitted to purchase foodstuffs to compensate for the dietary limitations at the prison store. However Mr. Boroujerdi is not permitted to have a money card and he is not allowed to have money deposited into his prison account, therefore he is prohibited from purchasing any food to supplement his dietary needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The example of the food situation in Evin prison:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Distribution of unsanitary food at the Special Clerical ward\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2010\/07\/unsanitary-food-distributed-in-special.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2010\/07\/unsanitary-food-distributed-in-special.html<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s prohibition on having legal representation during his eight years as captive of a religious dictatorship\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">At the Special Clerical Tribunal, there are court assigned lawyers who are retired prosecutors and defendants are forced to choose from among them. During Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s court date, a lawyer who he had not requested turned up in court and did not bother to defend him but he did charge the Boroujerdi family 3 million Tomans (approximately 1250 USD) though court assigned lawyers work for free.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Boroujerdi has repeatedly requested to be represented by an independent lawyer but he has been categorically refused. His trials have also taken place unofficially and behind closed doors. Mr. Boroujerdi requested that Ms. Giti Pour-Faazel be his legal representative; he asked that she follow up on his case and he even presented him with a legal written proxy. Ms. Pour-Faazel even went to the Special Clerical Tribunal but the tribunal refused to allow her to have the file and did not even permit her to visit him. On another occasion she even went to Evin prison and again, she was barred from visiting him. Therefore he is not represented by any attorney, nor has he been permitted to consult with one.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The situation surrounding visiting Mr. Boroujerdi\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He is only permitted to be visited by his family. In the past he was on occasion prohibited from having visitors as reported.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chrr.biz\/spip.php?article16081\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/chrr.biz\/spip.php?article16081<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2010\/08\/dissident-cleric-hossein-kazemini.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2010\/08\/dissident-cleric-hossein-kazemini.html<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On occasion some of the visits have taken place in cabins but during recent years he has been able to visit with his immediate family, in person, for twenty minute intervals, every two weeks.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">His wife is permitted to visit him twice a month for two hours; however these visits are only afforded him under the condition that he performs hard labor in prison. He is assigned chores such as sweeping the entire yard, washing heavy blankets and carpeting, scrubbing large pots and pans and so on. For someone in Mr. Boroujerdi\u2019s physical condition however these chores are extremely labor intensive and exhausting.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The latest threats and interrogations in the Special Clerical Tribunal\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During the European Parliament\u2019s delegation visit to Iran, Mr. Boroujerdi was put under severe psychological pressure and toruture by the Special Clerical Tribunal in order for him to sign a letter addressing the delegation, stating that he was not interested in meeting with either them or Dr. Ahmad Shaheed, the United Nations special reporter.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During the torture and interrogation sessions he was threatened and told that should he meet with the delegation, that his family visitation and telephone rights will be taken away. On that same day, he was once again severely persecuted and of course, without the presence of a lawyer, they had planned to open a new file against him.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He was told that he had to hand write a letter repenting and agreeing to collaborate with the regime and should he refuse, his son (Seyyed Mehdi Kazemeini-Boroujerdi whose file is also with the Special Clerical Tribunal) would be re-arrested and tortured in front of him. Seyyed Mehdi, who was arrested along with his father in 2006 had been held in solitary confinement for months and had previously been viciously tortured in the presence of both his parents. As a result of his ordeal in prison, he contracted Diabetes, Cholesterol and while in prison lost a total of fourteen kilos.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2013\/12\/boroujerdi-prohibited-from-meeting-with.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">http:\/\/www.bamazadi.org\/2013\/12\/boroujerdi-prohibited-from-meeting-with.html<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Following that incident however Mr. Boroujerdi announced that he never signed any letter;
